Anemoia by Yarni

Following a string of singles throughout 2025 - "Temperature's Rising," "S.W.A.L.K," "Natural Light," and "The Romantic Ghost" - the album sees Yarni collaborating with ten talented musicians and vocalists, drawing from a lifetime of musical exploration to weave together elements of disco, soul, jazz-funk, hip-hop, and trip-hop into a thoroughly modern tapestry.

As a purely self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Yarni (aka Benjamin Harris) continues to garner acclaim from influential voices, with Gilles Peterson describing his work as "lovely," Luke Una calling it "a beautiful gift to the world," and huge support from BBC Radio 6's Huey Morgan & Deb Grant declaring “Pigna” as "chef's kiss delicious." His previous release "Boro" landed on Spotify's Class of 2021 for Fresh Finds UK and Ireland.

"Anemoia" opens with the orchestral jazz-funk of "Neon Gods," setting the stage for a diverse sonic journey. The already-released "Temperature's Rising" features Nathaniel Short and showcases Yarni's first string quartet arrangement, while "Sealed With A Loving Kiss" (released as "S.W.A.L.K") with Scarlett Fae creates an epic that bridges the space between Fleetwood Mac, Cleo Sol & LCD Soundsystem. The journey continues through the hip-hop fusion of "Natural Light" (featuring Franz Von and Jeff Darko), the ethereal trip-hop of "The Romantic Ghost" (featuring Plumm), and concludes with the hypnotic Afrobeat-influenced closer "Nino."

Rather than creating a retro tribute, Yarni has crafted a forward-thinking album that reimagines the golden age of funk, jazz, soul, and disco through a contemporary lens. The project features an impressive cast of collaborators, including James Atashroo's evocative trumpet work, Bes Bluma's soulful Balearic contribution on "Locked Down," and Scarlett Fae's meditative spoken word on "Sunrise: Sunset." "This album is not about recreating the past," says Yarni, "but about channeling its spirit into something new. Each collaborator brought their unique voice to the project, while maintaining a cohesive vision that feels like a live performance."

"Anemoia" represents a milestone in Yarni's artistic journey, demonstrating his ability to bring together diverse influences and talents into a unified whole. From string quartets to Brazilian percussion, and disco grooves to ambient textures, the album creates a musical world where past and present dance together in perfect harmony.
