Memories EP by The Indiigo Child
San Francisco-based The Indiigo Child explores the tension between honoring the past and remaining present on the new Memories EP.
Daniel Knott, aka The Indiigo Child, isn't afraid to show emotion in his music, with a house sound that blends cinematic synths, deep grooves, and soulful textures influenced by a multicultural upbringing and a family history rooted in performance, music, art, and poetry. He has built up a diverse catalog since debuting the project in 2018 with outings on Save My World, Alpha Good Girl, Techno Dream and Throttle Therapy, and now subtly evolves his style once more.
The immediately effective "Memories" has a heart-tugging r&b sample that makes you pine for something you didn't know you'd lost. It's a swinging house groove with dry, dusty, and perfectly stripped-back drums, with an irresistible bump that never quits. Whether on a main stage or a smaller back room, it has all the ingredients to lock you in.
The brilliant "East Bay" has springy house drums and elastic bass with a more playful bounce and smudged vocals that amp up the vibes. It's another restrained cut that packs a big punch both emotionally with the melancholic chords and physically with the clipped, punchy groove.
