Off World Synthetics EP by Mike Shannon

Mike Shannon drops the Off World Synthetics EP, where inspiration came from graphic novels and sci-fi movies, on Rekids.

Canadian DJ and producer Mike Shannon kicks off the year on Radio Slave's Rekids with the "Off World Synthetics EP," landing on the 16th January 2026 and marking his first appearance on the label since 2023's "Shadow Moves" for sub-label RSPX. A long-standing force in Minimal and House with a discography stretching two decades, collaborations on Richie Hawtin's Plus 8, and his own Cynosure and Haunt Recordings labels, Shannon has carved out a reputation as a respected staple in the booth and the studio.

"Off World Synthetics" was greatly inspired by reading the Jarodofsky and Möbius's graphic novel INCAL. Plus the films Blade Runner and The Lost Boys. The Track "Only Noodles" has a little sample of Kiefer Sutherland in it. "They're only Noodles Michael," Blade Runner and the INCAL both mention the concept of OFF world experiences that inspired me.

Inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Möbius' INCAL graphic novels, Mike Shannon's "Off World Synthetics EP" opens with "Synthetic Salsateca," where a static groove drives a playful, squelching synthline. "Back To The Hood" follows with rattling, mechanical energy, before the flip reveals "Off World Sparkle," with its wonky sequences bending around a rubbery low-end. Closing cut "Only Noodles" pushes deeper into warped clicks, scratches, and subtly shifting textures, rounding off an EP that's raw, restrained, and devastating in the right hands and on the right system.

Founded in 2006, Radio Slave's Rekids launched the Techno-focused Rekids Special Projects in 2017 and its latest sublabel, REK'D, in 2024. With Matt Edwards as the sole A&R, Rekids has been instrumental in developing emerging artists and remains a trusted home for House and adjacent sounds, recently featuring names such as Mathias Kaden, Tal Fussman, Danny Howells, Frankey & Sandrino, and more.
