Oye Mizo by Levent Canseven
Oye Mizo: a deeply personal journey through memory, melancholy and hope by Levent Canseven.
The mind, head & heart behind the internationally established projects Can 7 and Levthand make a curveball return with Oye Mizo - an introspective, smooth yet future-bound album that reveals a different side of Levent Canseven.
Based in Cologne, Germany, Levent Canseven had just completed a dance album when he rediscovered a number of sounds, sketches, and musical ideas from his past. Somehow, they suddenly felt different - as if their time had finally come. Following that instinct, he began shaping them into what would become Oye Mizo: a deeply personal journey through memory, melancholy and hope.
What emerged are eight mostly instrumental tracks of mystic beauty and inner depth, carrying with them an almost weightless sense of cosmic space.
From the cinematic, saudade-tinged downtempo of "Music Box" to the warm, dub-infused groove of "Love Fever" to the enigmatic, dream-like title track "Oye Mizo", the album moves between warmth and intimacy, depth and space.
"Grace Noir" and "Bin Bei Dir" reveal the album's quieter, more personal side, while the drum & bass-infused "Carla's Dream" and the laid-back lo-fi textures of "Angel Slice" add unexpected accents and further expand Oye Mizo's musical horizon.
Every sound was thought, felt, written, played, recorded, and produced by Levent Canseven - during an intensely inspired period of rediscovery, exploring his own roots, memories, hopes, dreams, and vision.
