Perla by Nico Stojan, Tooker

Tooker and Nico Stojan kicked off this label in September, followed by Stojan's return with David Mayer for the second EP in October. He is the Berlin-based former Bar25 resident who heads up Ouïe Records with Acid Pauli and draws on downtempo, jazz, and hip-hop in his richly layered grooves. Tooker, meanwhile, is a former member of the acclaimed DJ duo KMLN and a multi-instrumentalist who often incorporates live percussion into his performances at events such as ADE, BPM Festival, Burning Man, and Woomoon Ibiza.

This latest track from the pair has a long and special history. Tooker first began the idea many years ago during a period of deep inspiration and creative flow in Bali. When the first version came together, he already felt it was the kind of piece that would one day be beautiful to develop with Nico Stojan, even though they had not yet met at that moment. A few years later, the connection finally happened in Berlin when, in one night, the whole track came alive, shaped by their shared taste, musicality, and effortless chemistry. Since then, it became one of their signature pieces and has been played in every set for the last several years.

"Perla" is a sophisticated exploration of melody, featuring subtle synths and icy bells, soft chord sequences, and golden bells that weave in and out of a supple groove. It's quietly intense and rich in detail, so it pulls your attention in many different directions at once, all while you get carried away by the deep, escapist groove.
