Rewind EP by Whoizz & Denace 2 Society
Espada Recordings founders Whoizz & Denace 2 Society tap into old school garage on their sleazy new Rewind EP.
Espada Recordings has made a significant impression in a short time with its discerning blend of UKG and tech house. The label was started by Whoizz and Denace 2 Society and is already synonymous with authentic and authoritative sounds. That's no real wonder given the vast experience of co-founder Denace 2 Society, who has been in the game for two decades, played all across Europe, released on Kittball and Klaphouse, and many more. Whoizz is a fast-rising talent whose "Base Street" track got serious support from Marco Carola, while follow-ups like "Duk Duk" and "MySpace" have been huge in Ibiza for James Hype and all underline his powerful signature sound.
Their dark yet irresistible opener "Rewind" bounces on buoyant drums while the bassline curls lips with filthy intent. Edgy stabs cut through the mix next to spin backs and fragmented ragga tones, and the thing strikes a perfect balance between playful mischief and shadowy menace. "Freeze" is a fantastically raw slice of old-school garage for dark, sweaty rooms with a growling bassline underpinning tumbling chords. Unruly spin-backs, sirens, and ghostly, decaying vocals capture the spirit of UKG's golden era perfectly, but all with a modern twist.
German-born, Ibiza-based producer and audio engineer Tsodor has a classical and jazz background and fuses this with contemporary club energy. He's a graduate of the Abbey Road Institute with credits on Cocoon Recordings and Moodmusic Records. His version of "Rewind" brings swaggering tech house naughtiness and a cavernous bass that consumes everything in its wake while brighter pads and euphoric pianos provide a surprise switch-up that will send the floor wild.
Stuttgart's Dejago is a piano wizard who constantly evolves his sound, moving from deep to minimal to tech. He brings ethereal melody to his house rework of "Rewind," which drives into a cosmic night with lush layers of synth and piano next to smeared vocals and waves of subtle euphoria. Finally, Whoizz takes "Rewind" into drum & bass territory with a rework that's pure rave release. Thunderous breakbeats tear through the mix, lifted by frantic piano chords and a plunging, sub-heavy bassline that rattles the foundations and amplifies the chaos and energy.
