The Call by Liz Vice
Liz Vice unveils her dazzling new album, The Call, in a vibrant, self-released masterpiece that sparkles with creative brilliance.

With early support for single "Woman" on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM, this record showcases her signature blend of soul, gospel, and heartfelt storytelling, delivered with authenticity and vulnerability. The album, running 33 minutes across 8 tracks, promises to be a deeply reflective journey that resonates with listeners on both a personal and communal level. The project was recorded in Munich, and features former Bowie collaborator Timothy Lefebvre on bass and co-production duties, plus a core band comprising Web Web's Roberto Di Gioia on keys, Ferdinand Kirner on guitar, and Matteo Scrimali on drums.
...Enter Ms. Vice, whose version of gospel is more rootsy than radio. She has a rich voice that fits easily into her groovy yet understated arrangements; the result recalls the gentle revival of artists like Leon Bridges.

Liz Vice reflects on how life has a way of reminding us just how fleeting it can be. "For me, that reminder came early, even before I could wrap my head around the idea, life is short," she says, recalling an earlier in life health scare that shifted her perspective as a teenager. "I was in and out of the hospital. Sometimes stuck in a hospital bed for weeks or even a month at a time. Watching travel shows seemed to get my mind off of the painful uncertainties of my health; dreaming about the day I could explore the world beyond those sterile walls. I made a promise to myself: if I made it through this time, I wouldn’t waste a moment."
In 2022, Liz Vice started working towards fulfilling that promise she made to herself years ago. She packed up her life into one checked bag, gave most of her belongings away, and put the rest in storage. She bought a one-way ticket to London. What followed was an unforgettable journey across Europe, staying with old friends and making new ones along the way.
"It was June 2023; I was sitting in a café in South London called the Lazy Chef. The food is incredible." Liz recalls. "That’s where the idea for this record started to come together. I found myself looking for something to help me get back into creating for myself. I started playing around in Logic Pro with beats and melodies. I found myself revisiting old songs I had either written or co-written with friends years prior." Inspiration struck, and Liz knew she was on the verge of something special. She began the journey of writing another record.
Over the course of 8 months, Liz spent countless hours refining lyrics, writing new lyrics, wrestling with melodies, and facing down doubts; how was she going to pay for this? What did she have to say? "There were times when it all felt like too much. Why would I spend the last of my savings on something that brought me so much uncertainty over the past 8 years?" she admits, "but whenever I needed it, a word of encouragement or a shoulder to lean on would show up."
"At the beginning of 2024, the great Tim Lefebvre reached out to me. "Let’s make a jazz record." Opportunity met Liz’s preparation. The rest is history. Liz made her way to Munich, Germany, and began the process to record her dream record. With gratitude, she adds, "Thank you for being part of this story."
On this album, Liz Vice delves into themes of self-reflection, accountability, and the strength found in vulnerability. From the compelling opener What Have We Done, which confronts personal and collective responsibility, to the introspective closer Nowhere I Can Go, Vice invites listeners to explore the complexities of the human experience with empathy and grace. Tracks like Woman and Never Been The Same celebrate growth and transformation, while Face Value and The Call offer soulful reflections on identity and purpose.
