The Lost Demos EP by Ritzi Lee
The Dutch artist Ritzi Lee's first release on Ben Sims' imprint since his 2023 LP, now with four rediscovered tracks on The Lost Demos EP.
Ritzi Lee is back on Ben Sims’ Symbolism imprint in October with a four-track EP of tracks that have lain dormant on a discarded CDR for twenty years. Initially destined for Ritzi Lee, aka Steve Liem’s Underground Liberation label back in 2005, the tracks on "The Lost Demos EP" struck a chord with both Sims and Liem in terms of how fresh they still sounded.
Ben dug them out from a stack of old CDs, and when I listened back, it instantly threw me back in time. I was genuinely surprised by how well the music still resonated with everything I’ve been doing all these years. For me, the definition of timeless is when a track doesn’t sound dated - when you can play it now, or 20 years later, and no one can tell when it was made.
Ritzi Lee
A raw and unpolished aesthetic runs throughout "The Lost Demos EP," with Ritzi Lee’s "live" approach to arrangements giving off an unpredictable and tense vibe. From the Mills-esque melodies of opener "Squelch," the shuffled, dummy stomps of "Rite" and "Transit" through to the distorted, percussive freak-out of closer "Spitfire," this is uncompromising, visceral music from one of Europe’s unsung heroes of Techno.
