Tulips EP by Groundhog
Tulips EP by Groundhog is a deep, sensual EP filled to the brim with expertly crafted deep house that just makes you smile.
There’s something about Tauranga in September. The skies stretch wider, the breeze carries stories, everything feels just a little more alive. And Groundhog, the groove-hunting duo from New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty, catch the pull again. This time, their story doesn’t start on a mountaintop, but somewhere softer, maybe in a record shop full of dusty disco sleeves or in a studio packed with gear.
We’re not sure where their new idea began to bloom, but we’re very glad to be here presenting it and welcoming it once again on our platforms. The first track that takes shape is "Bahama Soul," a happy-house cut that moves like it knows the weekend’s already sorted. It’s bright, it’s cheeky, it doesn’t overthink anything but just grooves.
Then comes "Soulful," floating in on a breeze. Melodic keys swirl around a laid-back melody and an elegant bassline that sticks with you. Finally, they build "Tulips," the title track. A steady, rhythmic engine drives it forward, while spoken word slips through the cracks. Real, grounded, and totally unbothered. Here, they team-up with Cheeky Cat, a DJ and producer from nearby Mount Maunganui, who drops in with just the right balance of depth and edge.
The three tracks come together as Tulips, the second EP by Groundhog on Apparel Music, a follow-up to their debut, and another postcard from the heart of Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand).
They don’t force their music, they just tune in and let it grow and flow. Still rooted in Tauranga, still reaching out everywhere you want them to be, one bloom at a time.
