Virtue Signaling by JMMR

Issued on New York's Nublu imprint, JMMR (Jordan McLean's Musical Resistance) presents the rousing "Virtue Signaling," the third single taken from the upcoming album "Resistance is Fertile." Featured soloists are Stuart Bogie (tenor saxophone) and Jordan McLean (trumpet).

Resistance is Fertile was recorded using layered first take performances. All tracks were recorded to "dance music" tempo markings (between 120-172 beats per minute, or BPM), beginning with voice memo beatboxes, layered on top by drums, synths, and finally horns. These multitracked improvisations were then edited and mixed into the compositions heard on the album. JMMR is built for guests, and the album features blinding improvisational contributions from reedmen to the stars Stuart Bogie and Cochemea Gastelum, and global sensations Morgan Price and Ricardo Quinones.

JMMR (Jordan McLean's Musical Resistance) brings you the new sounds of Electrobeat, with their debut album Resistance is Fertile. Resisting despair since 2019, the Resistance was rebuilt for the long haul in 2024. Founded by long-time Antibalas trumpeter and bandleader/arranger Jordan McLean, the members of the Musical Resistance have performed with a diverse array of artists such as The Roots, TV on the Radio, Tony Allen, Steven Tyler, Iron and Wine, Zack Bryan, David Byrne, Patti Labelle, Sharon Jones and the Dapkings, JRAD, Medeski Martin & Wood and Ornette Coleman to name only a very few. At the bandʼs core lies a fusion of synthetic and natural elements, where machines enhance human expression. Both familiar and unrecognizable, traditional musical techniques undergo electronic synthesis, yielding unforeseen outcomes, creating an internet radio dance tempo avant-rave.
