Wicked by Lau.ra feat. Eliza Legzdina

The thrillingly forward-looking lau.ra is back on Needwant with another huge single, Wicked, this time featuring rising UK rapper Eliza Legzdina.

Lau.ra is an alias from DJ, producer, and vocalist Laura Bettinson who has already picked up praise from The Guardian, Future Music, and Billboard. Under her own name, she has produced subversive synth and electro-pop with unhinged rhythms and intriguing textures as well as writing and featuring on tracks with Sasha, Four Tet, Maribou State, and the big hit "Heart Attack" with BRONSON (ODESZA & Golden Features).

AS FEMME, Bettinson picked up praise from the likes of Vogue and Rolling Stone with her leftfield pop sound. On top of this, she works with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich as one-third of Ultraísta, an act that has had broad critical acclaim.

Lau.ra's last single, "Get Creative" picked up high-profile radio support across BBC Radio 1 and BBC6 Music, again proving why Annie Mac has dubbed her "a one-woman powerhouse".

This latest single comes with a standout vocal performance from rising UK rapper Eliza Legzdina, who's getting big backing from Spotify, and for good reason. The Latvian-born, London-based performer has been adopted by the capital's queer club scene and has used her voice to spread her musical and political message. Here, Legzdina adds plenty of attitude to the muscular "Wicked" as it kicks off with mangled bass and fractured vocals that immediately make you move.

Off-grid claps and libidinous vocal sounds add sweat, soul, and steaminess to the arrangement and the whole thing grows ever more turbulent thanks to the vast distorted synth lines which spray wildly about the mix. Chunky, funky, and robust, this is a full-flavored tune that cannot fail to grab the attention of anyone who hears it.

This new offering is another exciting and adventurous step that keeps Lau.ra right at the vanguard and comes with a superb remix by hotly tipped Glasgow based producer, Nightwave who takes things into a tough, broken beat territory.
