The Hook Up EP by Harvey McKay
The Scottish producer Harvey McKay debuts on Hardgroove with The Hook Up EP.
Fresh from a collaborative release with Confidential Recipe on RSPX, Harvey McKay arrives on Ben Sims' Hardgroove with the solo "The Hook Up EP" - this punchy four-tracker will be released in mid-August.
Kicking off with the boisterous low tom-driven swing of "Only 909" - a track that McKay crafted solely from a TR909 with no samples or synth leads - "The Hook Up" celebrates the no-nonsense side of Hardgroove in spades. The stomping percussion and nifty sampling of "What Is Her Name?" and "Hook Up" are fuelled by underlying Funk, while the raucous, big-room heft of the closing track, "Superman," takes no prisoners.
With a hugely well-received remix of Daniel Avery's "Drone Logic" for Phantasy Sound and releases on RSPX and his own Faction Music in the past year, Harvey McKay's two decades in the game show no signs of a drop off.
