This Feeling (The Soul Clap Remixes)

Back in 2003, the dream team duo of Arthur Baker and Dave Clarke teamed up as AB/DC to produce ‘This Feeling’ for Southern Fried Records. Now, modern day heroes Soul Clap revisit and remix the track three different ways.

Soul Clap, of course run their own deep house and funk label, are currently touring the world with peers like Wolf & Lamb and Slow Hands as Crew Love and won lots of new fans with their retrospective Nice & Ripe mix last year.

Little needs to be said of the original artists here – Arthur Baker is a producer extraordinaire who has worked with everyone from Afrika Bambaataa to New Order, while White Noise man Dave Clarke has made a huge contribution to the worlds of techno and electro in his long career.

First up is ‘Soul Clap’s classic vox’ mix, which totally flips the urgent tech house original into a slow and sensuous deep house roller with sombre chords that sound subtly familiar. A soaring diva vocal line fully ignites the track as subtle synths add colour hues and tons of human warmth to the arrangement.

The ‘deepest dub’ version is a little more propulsive with its wavy beats, crisp swaying percussion and warm streams of long tailed pads somewhere off in the distance. A well buried bassline does lazy things deep down below and the title of this cuddly, romantic late night offering couldn’t be more apt.

The classic instrumental is a little darker and more driven, combining the melancholic chords from the first version with the wistful far off whispers of the second, with some classic Soul Clap p-funk stylings thrown in for good measure, and is sure to go down a treat this summer.
