All U Do by Cortese
Red-hot Cortese duo serve up trance-infused house music and breaks on their Last Night On Earth debut.
Brighton and Manchester-based duo Cortese have exploded onto the scene in recent years with an infectious blend of garage, breaks, and house. They previously contributed to Sasha's LUZoSCURA compilation, run their own Plaza Recordings, and have supported superstars like Bicep and Mike Skinner. From four to the floor to more stepping rhythms, they know how to work the club with a blend of always physical drums and standout synth sounds.
The sumptuous "All U Do" marries Balearic synth hooks with slick, punchy drums and '90s basslines. It's brilliantly simple but effective, with subtle breakdowns, lush chords, and blissed-out little vocal sounds, finishing this most serene and smooth track in an unforgettable fashion. "I Wanna Know" has a darker energy thanks to the menacing bassline that growls way down below the crisp drums and wooden hits. Liquid female vocal coos are draped over the groove as splashy cymbals and prog chords all work you into an Ibizan dream state.
For the closer, Cortese links with Edinburgh-based J Wax, a core member of the thriving collective and label Palidrone, who has dropped heat on Future Classic and Headroom Records and soon heads out on a tour of Asia. Their collaborative "Can't Deny" has a bassline that harks back to classic speed garage with airy breakbeats and R&B vocal stabs. Hooky synth motifs and a breezy, fist-pumping groove all make this a surefire winter anthem with cross-over appeal.
