The Second Company with Brian Johnson

Following his 2022 "That Culture" album on his Master Chef Music imprint, Brian Johnson unveils his next LP, "The Second Company," which will be released this August. On this next LP, Johnson explores his Techno influences across an eleven-track runtime, including a collaboration with Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and a remix from long-time collaborator Organic Life.

The title track of the "The Second Company" album sees Brian Johnson utilize arp sequences, punchy drum machines, and an evocative radio-like vocal before continuing the LP with "Mortality," which features cascading keys and sustained pads for a hefty dose of suspense. Johnson's "Sovereignties" features dark, brooding melodies and a futuristic-yet-dystopian-sounding vocal. It is followed by "Find Me," which has distinct acidic influences over its hard-hitting Techno beat, while in "Rare & Beautiful," Johnson and Yasiin Bey team up for a gorgeous offering with trickling keys and tough drums, complete with Bey's nostalgia-drenched vocals.

Up next is the roaring 303-infused club cut "Spread The Word," after which Brian Jonhson returns to the Hip Hop influenced, vocal-inflected Techno mutations of "The Get Down" and "CA$H." "Son of Sanford" and "Don't Tempt Me" continue to delve into the more melodic side of Johnson's Techno sound with vibrant, psychedelic soundscapes, with Organic Life stepping up for the closer, remixing Brian and Yasiin's "Rare & Beautiful" into a chilled-out Broken Beat trip.

Born in Toronto to parents of Jamaican descent, Brian Johnson worked his way up the local scene and soon hosted and headlined parties before running his recording facility. Johnson has since produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered thousands of tracks for artists such as Barrington Levy and Drake. His music is a mix of Deep House, Dub, and Techno with a new and distinctive edge, a wide array of these influences showcased on the ‘The Second Company' album.

Brian Johnson's "The Second Company" is another quality addition to his extensive discography. In true Techno spirit, it sounds like a machine-like future rooted in the present, yet yearns for a time long past.
