In Essence by Jesse Maas

A house head by nature and a name embedded within the modern generation of Dutch artists pushing the various shades of the genre on an international level, Amsterdam's Jesse Maas is continuing to excel as one of the most consistent names within the space alongside colleagues such as Chris Stussy, ANOTR and Toman, amongst others.

Following a busy start to 2024 both on the road and within his hometown with appearances at Thuishaven, Shelter, and more, plus a productive period in the studio resulting in a recent outing on Yoyaku's sub-label AKU, Maas now makes his mark on FUSE's sister label LOCUS as label boss Enzo Siragusa welcomes him to the label for the first time to unveil his new EP, "In Essence."

Opening with eerie tones before transitioning into a skippy, driving cut with cosmic synths, "Settled After" gets things moving from the off. At the same time, "Q Got It" is bouncy and bubbly, with lively bass hits, playful interjections and calls working between warped vocals for more animated beats. 

The title cut, "In Essence," is trippy while still packing a serious punch, with heavy-hitting drums and a rumbling groove steering an ever-evolving trip. "Fully Fledged" lays the focus on rolling organic percussion and funk-fuelled, acid-dipped bass licks for a bumping heater, before wrapping things up with a more paired-back, hazy, and serene journey with the closing effort, "Goddess Of Flowers."
