Nox Anima by Scratch Massive
Scratch Massive returns with the latest album, Nox Anima, a vibrant cinematic narrative rich with tension and serene moments.

After six years dedicated to solo explorations and the evocative world of film scores, the acclaimed duo Scratch Massive, now reuniting Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenut, triumphantly returns with their latest offering, "Nox Anima." Recorded in the vibrant pulse of Los Angeles in 2023, this album marks a powerful reconnection with the signature dreamlike and haunting atmospheres that defined their seminal works, "Garden Of Love" and "Nuit de Rêve" (2011). These two pivotal albums saw Scratch Massive masterfully refine their cinematic universe, striking a perpetual and compelling balance between opposing forces: cold and heat, darkness and hedonism, the allure of pop and the grit of the underground, the brightness of day and the mystery of night.
Comprising eleven meticulously crafted tracks, "Nox Anima" features two standout hits infused with pop sensibilities, showcasing compelling collaborations with Yelle and Jeanne Added. With its precise and sophisticated production, the album rediscovers the enduring magic that is uniquely Scratch Massive. It propels their signature electronic and melancholic trance into new territories, unfolding as the immersive soundtrack to an imagined film - a narrative rich with tension and unexpected turns, moments of deceleration and exhilarating acceleration, palpable palpitations and serene appeasements.
This sonic tapestry vividly evokes tales of love and loss, of longed-for reunions and inevitable separations. It's an emotional landscape charged with subtle tension and explosive climaxes, moments of intimate introspection and radiant expansiveness, seamlessly blurring the lines between dream and reality with fervent passion. This subtly dystopian climate finds its perfect visual counterpart in the work of visionary director Emmanuel Cossu (renowned for his collaborations with Dua Lipa, Gesaffelstein, Connan Mockasin, and Sébastien Tellier). Cossu lends his artistic touch to two flagship tracks, "I See You Up Tomorrow" and "Inner Symphony," crafting poetic settings brought to life with the aid of AI. These visuals serve as a captivating extension of the bittersweet universe meticulously unfolded within "Nox Anima."
This new album signifies a significant milestone for the duo, who, over a distinguished 20-year career and now five studio albums, have indelibly marked the landscape of French electro. Eschewing the disco filters and overdriven beats of the French Touch movement, their dreamlike, melancholic, poetic, and cinematic universe stands apart, confidently straddling the realms of techno and cold wave.
