Seaweed Rhythms Vol. 1 by Various Artists

Seaweed Records and sub-label Seaweed Rhythm have emerged as two Scandinavian hotspots and go-to imprints for fresh house music across the spectrum, ranging from dubby and immersive spheres to more traditional and vibrant territories. With Seaweed Rhythm, the focus lays towards music spanning to the more minimal realms, previously welcoming music from the label boss Bäcksvart under his Zlene alias and his close friend Mathias Hinds with remixes from Dirty Hands founder Per Hammer and RLZ boss Rowlanz for the first EP.

Unveiling the latest release on the label, late June welcomes the arrival of the first Various Artist package on the label, with both remixers returning with fresh music alongside new material from Mihai Popoviciu, YSC, Andu Simon, Honeydrop (aka DJ Honesty) and Cesare vs. Disorder - plus a collaboration from the Seaweed family with Zlene alongside Kalkyl.

Romanian favorite Mihai Popoviciu and the UK's Rowlanz man the A-side, with the two artists delivering contrasting productions, from simple but unearthly groove on the A1 to the driving bassline and percussion fiesta on the A2. The B-Side brings a slice of funk as YSC provides "Phase," while Andu Simon's "When They See Us" is a jazz-tinged deep dive through classy sonics. The second 12" pairs the trippy, late-night haze and wandering tones of Per Hammar's "Sub Motion" with the skippy and slinking rhythms of Honeydrop's slick "Instagram Sunset" before closing the show with the bubbling and wonky "Choramingando" from Cesare vs. Disorder and Zlene & Kalkyl's wormhole of a production, "Pull It Up."
