Vampira by Julia Mestre

Presenting ‘Vampira', the latest single from Bala Desejo bandmember Julia Mestre's forthcoming album. Finding Julia at her most sultry, it's a dream-like, downbeat production with an up-close and intimate vocal delivery. With musical production inspired by the sound of the 1980s, it draws influence from Sade, Maxwell, and even Michael Jackson's "Thriller." An invitation into an immersive world inspired by vintage horror movies and infused with elements of horror, sensuality, and mystery, it's an ode to a vampire lover and the urges wrapped up within it.

"Vampira" is Julia's reinterpretation of Rey Reyes' original salsa song, reimagined with an air of mystery and desire, transforming the song's narrative into a sensual thriller. As Julia states, "I've always had the desire to bring elements of the Spanish language into my music - it's something that is part of my history. Now, with "Vampira," I explore even more of this intersection between Portuguese and Spanish," says Julia, whose mother is Spanish. "When I first heard the original version of the song, I realised it connected deeply with the central theme of my new album: the many faces of love. It was a process of transforming the song's comedic energy into something more mysterious - a sensual horror."

The song also marks Julia Mestre's first foray into string and orchestral arrangements for the new album, collaborating with Alexandre Queiroz to arrange the sublime ghostly strings. Warm Rhodes and synthesizer lines by Gabriel Quirino and Gabriel Quinto add to the otherworldly nature of the track. It's an enticing production that lures you to lean in and surrender to its charms.
