Cityscape is the first mini-album from self-proclaimed studiofreak Mike Luck, a DJ and producer hailing from Utrecht, Netherlands. A quick visit to his Soundcloud page reveals an assuredly talented producer that borrows as he pleases from a myriad of genres. Elements of disco, house, dub, indie and more are all present in Luck's own particular take on electronica, giving his output a decidedly West Coast vibe whilst retaining a foundation of European house sensibilities. If Cityscape is the album's title, then trying to guess which city he conveys best is definitely part of the fun.

Mike Luck's previous releases include a deftly progressive, string-soaked remix of Monarchy track Disintegration featuring burlesque icon Dita Von Teese and productions for Berlin's Thomas Azier and Dutch rap/funk outfit Chef'Special. He also kicked out a cracking remix of How We Dance by Most Unpleasant Men in the not too distant past.

That he cut his teeth at French label Kitsuné and Belgium's Eskimo Recordings should come as no surprise to anyone with even a passing knowledge of these labels. Both have a reputation for nurturing quirky, cutting-edge electronica. But with the weight of Be Yourself Music behind Cityscape comes the opportunity for Mike Luck to solidify his already burgeoning reputation and move forward into the next phase of his musical career.

Cityscape is a boundless mini-album, packed with dreamy, spacious electronica that simultaneously relaxes and energises. It synthesises perfectly, from the subtle dub grooves of Mind Traveller to the polytempic Phase Change. It's satisfyingly cohesive, using warm bass and synth drones to ground each track to a central concept.

The title track includes a spectacular animated music video made by Maxmana, member of Amsterdam based interactive art collective Zesbaans. You can watch the video on YouTube and Vimeo.

Future plans for Mike Luck include a foray into the world of music production for games and movies and the production of a compelling live show. If Cityscape is your introduction into Mike Luck's musical landscape, expect to be travelling alongside this fresh talent on an exciting trajectory this year.
