Kicking off DJ Shufflemaster & Jon Hester's "Participation 004" on Hester's Participation label is "Lightning," a supple and ever-evolving slice of peak time techno infused with artistic synth craft, with stabs wriggling freely in between linear beats, bringing a certain fluidness to its mechanical loops. The equally fresh "Electricity" is laced up with just that - a long-playing late-night journey filled with flashes of static that liven up the groove for a bouncy track with heady drive and undulating modulations.

In 2023, Jon Hester launched his Participation label as a way of working with fellow underground talent. Following outings with the likes of Cassy and Tadeo, he now works with DJ Shufflemaster for the fourth installment of the project, a core artist of the Japanese techno scene with EPs on Tresor, Theory Recordings, while also running his own Shiki Kyokai label.

DJ Shufflemaster & Jon Hester's "Participation 004" is another fantastic collision of creative talents, with Jon scheduled to join forces with Joel Mull and Exos for Participation's upcoming releases this year.
