Daniel Haaksman has been championing tropical bass music since 2005 via his South America-focused Man Recordings and numerous collaborations with artists such as MC Miltinho, MALAGÜERA, and Coco Maria. In partnership with Brazilian funk carioca musician Deize Tigrona, his latest release, "Tudo," channels his instincts for unstoppably danceable grooves from the continent into a fresh production bursting with energy.
"Tudo" opens with sun-drenched synth stabs and classic clave snare patterns, combining to create an irresistibly feel-good groove. As the track opens up, Deize Tigrona's vocal stabs and ad-libs provide attitude and tension before building to a subtle and spacious drop bound to send the dancefloor as low as it can go.
Taking "Tudo" into a darker direction, leading Afro-Portuguese DJ Firmeza's Batida style rework of the track swaps sunny synths for wonky textures that roll backward in a hypnotically off-kilter loop. The furiously repetitive drums add to the effect, resulting in a version more suited for dark, sweaty dancefloors - in Durban or elsewhere. Adding a fresh dimension to the HiyaSelf catalog, "Tudo" is a powerful new EP pushing the sounds of the southern hemisphere forward.
