XYZ (Part Two) by Cari Lekebusch

Cari Lekebusch concludes his crucial XYZ series on Mind Medizin with four more brooding and stripped-back techno workouts.

H. Productions label head Cari Lekebusch is a vital techno veteran who continues to explore new ground. His first EP for this label showed that with a quartet of impactful tracks that drew on his background as a globe-trotting DJ and accomplished producer. He has made his mark on the likes of Drumcode and Planet Rhythm and is known for being a core part of the Swedish techno scene that went on to conquer the world.

This second EP kicks oﬀ with "Cause and Eﬀect," a bustling blend of scuﬀed-up kicks and snares, glitchy hits, and jangling synth sounds that bring significant looseness to the driving grooves. The funky "Handkante" delivers flailing percussive patterns and wisps of synths that spit out of the mix next to a drunken synth lead. "Strulgubbe" keeps the pressure on with more muscular drums, this time underpinned by darker bass and unsettling synth twangs. The fantastic closer "Tuli Taivaalla" oﬀers up a serene sound that is backed with sustained chords and marbled with edgy vocals.
