Gentle Actions EP by Beraber

Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Barış Akardere aka Beraber, organically blends Chicago's classically schooled keys and machine-made backdrops with subtle, atmospheric textures. His studio is packed with analogue and outboard gear, which defines his sound, and is located in the same building that once hosted the legendary De School club. His soulful and introspective sound is reflected in his acclaimed radio show, "Gentle Actions," on Amsterdam's RRFM.

Here, returning to United Identities, Beraber sets the tone for long summer evenings and sun-soaked days with a deeply personal collection of music that encapsulates a period of creative and personal growth. Rather than a concept record, it serves as a document of the past years of his musical evolution and marks the first time the producer has used his own vocals in his productions. Further vocal contributions come from Barcelona-based artist Ivy Barkakati, whose lyrics perfectly resonate with the journeying narrative of the EP.

The "Gentle Actions EP" opens with the single "Between Us," a calm mood-builder gracefully layered with meandering pads. "Distant Language" picks us up with its dubbed-out groove, guiding our feet on a journey through melodic landscapes. The wonderful ‘Responsibility' is an introspective track with a powerful message about turning dreams into reality, while "Lost in Loops" is a loose and soulful house cut featuring the artist's own vocals.

The vinyl journey ends with the more upbeat instrumental "Good Company," which is topped off with a deep, nocturnal remix by São Paulo's Zopelar, a mainstay of the Brazilian scene and global underground with a sound that spans house, techno, broken beat, and disco with great style on labels like Tartelet Records, Royal Oak, and Nómada Records. He brings a serene, cosmic energy with chatter and percussive grooves that get ever trippier.

Digital bonus cut "Afterthought" is a serene blend of soothing vocal swirls and smeared ambient pads with wiggling bass and pumping deep house drums, while Zopelar also serves up an Acapella Remix of "Responsibility" feat. Ivy Barkakati for layering into sets with emotive results.
