Raised in Manhattan during the "Golden Age" of dance music and inspired by the likes of Louie Vega, Joey Negro, and Frankie Knuckles, Brooklyn 101 resident DJ Payroll is back on his Good House Keeping Records label as he serves up three groove-laden, Latin-infused house cuts across his "Hearts Matter" EP.
Lead track "I Wish" is a pulsating number combining choppy vocals and convulsing synths over deep low-ends, before the percussive "My Life" throws in rhythmic drums and swinging stabs which get down under loopy female lyrics. To close, "La Vida" harnesses chuggy basslines, jazzy motifs, rattling bongos, and Latin harmonies for a sun-drenched finale.
