Five ways to make your relationship better

Relationships are not only rainbows and butterflies. It's also hard work sometimes. Instead of making it a hard graft, learn how to make the best out of it.

1. Shut up and listen
Mature people do not scream. Mature people sit down and discuss their issues in a civilized way. Making accusations of not letting your partner get a word in edgewise is not the smartest approach to problem-solving. Instead, hear them out first and really listen to what they say. It's not that difficult, is it?

2. Live and let live
Find a passion and pursue it. Go out with your friends once in a while. Being in a relationship does not mean that from this moment on it's only you and me. The worst thing you can do is to separate yourself from the outside world and focus on the two of you only. Be an individual with your own interests and hobbies. It's nothing but healthy. Spending every single moment with your better half? A big no-no.

3. Stay awesome and believe in yourself
Be confident enough not to make your happiness depend on the person you are with. Believe me - this works just the other way around. Only if you feel good about yourself, you are able to give happiness and let love into your life.

Stop doubting you're not good enough and expecting the worst to happen. And if it does, so what? People meet, and people split, that's just how the world works. Good memories, quality time you have had together - no one can take them away from you. And if it does not happen to last, you still have a life to get back to.

Stay awesome and believe in yourself

4. Give things a break
A pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen sink? Is there hair in the bathtub drain again? Who cares? Don't you have better things to do than to waste time and energy on nagging about things that will probably never change? Give it a break. No one has ever died of a smudged bathroom mirror or bed unmade, have they?

5. See what you get and stick to it
You know what they say about couples that are about to get married, "She hopes he will change and he hopes she will never do". Be wise not to fall into that trap. If there are things you are not able to slur over and get to the "it's ok" part, then maybe it's time for second thoughts on your relationship. Trying to remake someone in your image is not what a relationship should be about. That, my friend, is not a true feeling.
