Imaginal by James Bright
Imaginal by James Bright is an album that shines brightly among the stars and brings an immense warmth in its sonic exploration.
James Bright creates music about places and spaces. His latest compositions form this album called "Imaginal," which navigates through an explosion of colourful ambience, evoking a world of idealistic implications and thoughtful retreats for mind, body, and soul. The sounds capture moments as they fly past, easing tension and allowing for a collection of intervals for reflection across these ten pieces of musical excellence.
Musically, you'll hear a world inhabited by sonic rewards, as evidenced by the opening collaboration with Gaeya, whose vocals drift seamlessly over James's chiming, sensual repetitions, garnished with notes and interludes to get lost in. That joint enterprise is explored further through "Stillness" amid a warm rush of sweeping arpeggios and delicate voices.
Conversely, providing extra depth to the album‘s selection of varying moods is "Bioluminal," which contains washes of grainy-infused atmospheres and occasional keys that add background warmth.
Tracks like "The Source" see James's musical knowledge expand, extending fully as waves of sonic information fill the airwaves. "Cortex" then seeks to underpin its beautiful refrains via a heavier bass pulse, again sequencing difference and diversity into the album‘s deft programme of events.
But that's not the end of the story, as the long player leaves you full of the positive vibrations that inhabit the sublime "You Are the Sky." Sounding like a testimony to possibility, complete with a feast of organic sounds alongside deeply blissful tones, the artist highlights the innate beauty of the music produced on this stunning album.
